Beating the Heat – Quilting Christmas in August

This week has seen record temperatures for an already hot hot summer.  So to feel cooler I have been quilting two Christmas quilts and listening to holiday music.

First up is a Christmas Log Cabin by Kitty W.  Kitty makes a Christmas quilt to be raffled off each year for an organization she supports.  We always do a computer digitized design edge-to-edge.  I really really like this year’s quilt and plan to purchase some tickets.  I chose a cardinal and holly design based on the beautiful backing fabric.

Last fall Debby Maddy of Calico Carriage Quilts visited Cobblestone Quilters Guild and taught her Labyrinth pattern.  Vicki E chose to do hers is glitzy Christmas fabrics.  Vicki plans to enter this in our show next March so she wanted custom quilting.  I really stepped out on this one with the gold feathers on the white.  Contrasting thread scares me but I think this came out great and really amps up the design.  There was a lot of white that needed  to be filled.  I did tiny straight line fill on the outer edge of the feather designs and pebbles on the inner part of the border.

I love the texture on the back.
