These blocks are called Swoon and they are huge! 24 inches finished. The pattern is by Thimble Blossoms. They do not belong to me although I am sewing them up. These are Jolene’s. My BFF. I’ll tell you all about our friendship someday. Those who have known me a long time know the story.
Anyway, the pattern called for nine blocks. She decided she wanted the quilt to really cover her bed. So that meant 16 blocks. We spend an entire day a few Memorial Day weekends ago cutting this all out. We bagged up each set of blocks in its own baggie. Since then Jolene put block units together – all the half square triangles, all the flying geese. And she put together nine of the blocks. And then……well she got distracted by other projects and set them aside.
I’m trying hard to do some sewing every morning. Blocks parts in bags ….grab out one bag….lay out the pieces and sew. Not quite that easy – you have to build up different parts from the units. But it’s all cut out and the grunt work (half square triangles and flying geese) is done for me.
Takes me about two mornings to do one block. I’m only sewing about an hour every morning. Like I said, they are HUGE! But that’s what is under my sewing machine needle these days. Five to go. They are so very pretty and fresh looking. I can’t wait to see all 16 of them together. Then there will really be some big sewing to do to add the sashing and turn them into a king size quilt top.
