Longarm Classes

i’ve Purchased A Home Quilting System, Now What Do I Do With It?

Many quilters have taken the plunge and purchased their own home quilting system: shortarm, midarm, or and/or longarm.

Setting up and using these systems can be daunting. Quilting with Karen can come to the rescue and get you over that hump and started on the wonderful adventure of quilting your own quilts and reducing that pile of UQTs (You Cuties – UnQuilted Tops).

Karen will come to your home and show you how to load your quilt back, batting and top using a full or partial float and how to stabilize the three layers so you can begin quilting.

You will also receive an extensive list of quilting resources and be able to see the many tools that Karen uses to create her quilting designs. Then Karen will demonstrate five easy meander patterns to get you started on your quilting journey.

  • Half-day (3 hours) – $120
  • Full-day (6 hours) – $240

Note to Guilds: This class can also be offered as a guild workshop/lecture. In that case I use a Power Point presentation plus question/answer and then a drawing session.

  • 3 hours – $120

Beyond The Basic Stipple Meander: Free Motion Quilting Patterns That Will Set You Free!

Beginner / Advanced Beginner

Many quilt tops are well suited to an overall quilting pattern – but what to do?  Buying a pantograph for each new pattern can become expensive. Just doing a meander stipple becomes boring.

Quilting with Karen will show you how to step in front of your machine and set yourself free. We will start with loops and move on to swirls and paisleys.

Then we’ll add some 3s and Es to the mix. Falling, swirling leaves and beautiful tropical ferns will flow across your quilt top.

The grand finale will be a garden of flowers and leaves.

  • Four hour hands on class – $110 per student

The Supporting Cast

Applique quilts are so very beautiful and the applique elements need to be the star of the quilt.  But a star is only as strong as the supporting cast around him or her.  Background fills are essential tools to support the applique and make it shine like a star.  In this class you will learn at least nine background fills and how to combine them to add interest and texture to the backgrounds around applique.
